Fleet’s Pocket (In The Pocket) as a broodmare has fashioned a remarkable record.

She was purchased by Lex and the late Heather Williams at the 2002 National Yearling Sales. Trained by Tim Butt she raced four times for a best placing of fifth at Greymouth, before being mated as a three year old.

Her first foal was Mighty Pocketlands (Badlands Hanover). Running four seconds in New Zealand, and going on to win four races in Australia, she was the beginning of what was to become Fleet’s Pocket stunning career as a broodmare.

Fleet’s Pocket has left seventeen foals of racing age. Fifteen have qualified and twelve have won races.

Her foals have collectively won a remarkable one hundred and thirty one races for a total of $1,793,837 in stakes.

Her biggest winners have been Flying Pocketlands (Badlands Hanover) the winner of twenty one races and $442,423, Mighty Flying Thomas (Falcon Seelster) twenty four wins and $352,622, Mighty Flying Deal (American Ideal) twenty one wins and $241,070 and Mighty Flying Art (Art Major) eighteen wins and $212,400.

Her eleventh foal Mighty Flying Rocker (Rocknroll Hanover) has won three races pacing, and one as a trotter.

Her last two foals of racing age are Lumen Caeli (Bettor’s Delight) who’s won four of his seven starts and Mightyflyin Super Star (Art Major) who’s qualified for Canterbury trainer Regan Todd.

Her second foal Falcon’s Flybye (Falcon Seelster) qualified but was unraced. However as a broodmare she’s left Fleeting Grin (Grinfromeartoear) eleven wins, He Can Fly (Bettor’s Delight) thirty seven wins and $306,529 and Alotbettor (Bettor’s Delight) thirty nine wins and $532,012.

Lex is currently breeding from two of Fleet’s Pocket’s daughters – Flying Miss Williams (Falcon Seelster) and Flying Heathers One (Bettor’s Delight).

Fleet’s Pocket is in elite company. Other mares I can recall who’ve left winners of more than one hundred races are Loyal Trick (128), Belladonna (115), Significant (104) and Star Of Venus (101).
